The villa for wedding fashion in Zurich
It was the 1940s when young Agata Zoro learned the wonderful craft of tailoring from nuns in sunny Sicily. The girl quickly realized that this was her calling, and she harbored a big dream: to have her own business with her dresses!
Many years later, she moved to Switzerland. Now married and the mother of two daughters, she had the great fortune to work in renowned Zurich couture ateliers during the 1960s, contributing to the creations of luxurious evening gowns, where she was able to continuously expand her knowledge.“
In order to be closer to her two daughters, she found a position as a seamstress in a small bridal shop in Meilen, ZH. Meter after meter of silk was transformed by Agata Zoro into wedding dresses. She sewed opulently embroidered borders onto trains, appliquéd fabric roses, and added sparkling gems. White was still the fabric from which her dreams were made…
The opportunity to realize this dream came when the shop went bankrupt in 1988. Agata Zoro did not hesitate for a moment to take over the business. Her eldest daughter Milena, then 21 and a fashion student at the Zurich University of the Arts, promptly dropped out of her studies to handle purchasing, while her husband Pietro took care of the finances.
The family’s intuition for fashion trends proved to be spot on. The two sisters, Milena and Katia, even began designing their own bridal fashion collection — with groundbreaking success! The business flourished. Soon, larger premises were needed, which they found for the Zoro bridal shop in 1992 at Pelikanplatz in Zurich’s city center.
Meanwhile, Zoro has long become an institution for exclusive bridal fashion in Europe and a mecca for aspiring brides. Today, the daughters Milena and Katia take brides on their wedding dress shopping tours.
Senior manager Agata, now over 80, still frequently visits her beloved employees and helps out in the atelier. Does she have no desire to retire? ‚Oh no, bridal fashion is my passion!‘ she says.
